‘GIRL’ wins place in prestigious Aurora 2006 Program
First Fleet Entertainment is proud to announce its project Girl has been selected to participate in the 2006
Aurora
program run by the
NSW Film and Television Office
.
Girl is an original screenplay by writer John O’Brien about an android servant who starts to develop feeling for her master.
Mr O’Brien says Girl is quite a change from his best known work A Wreck, A Tangle and the ABC series Fireflies.
“Girl is an intimate science fiction drama,” he said.
“The story uses science fiction as a means of exploring some confronting issues of today as well as themes that touch on what it is to be human and to love”.
Co-producer Rowan Maher says that being selected for
Aurora
is an excellent endorsement of the project and John O’Brien’s vision.
“The
Aurora
program gives us and other script writers the opportunity to develop a project and to make meaningful steps towards getting the project financed.
“Without the support of the FTO, this script would not be where it is today.”
Co-producer Darryl Robinson agrees and describes Girl as a compelling and provocative screenplay.
“The science fiction in Girl is more like ‘Gattica’ than ‘Star Wars’ in its style but the themes and story are very adult.
“John has crafted a very intelligent and strikingly original story.”
Darryl Robinson has previously worked on ‘Ned’ while Rowan Maher has worked at DreamWorks, Warner Bros and HBO Films.
